Today in Genesis chapter 4, we will see that man apart from God is never neutral; he is always in a state of spiritual and moral decline. God pours out His common grace lavishly, allowing even non-believers to make incredible advances in technology and culture. Without faith, technological progress simply makes man more efficient at sinning. Instead of murdering with a heavy rock, he uses forged metal. Instead of scorning God with mere speech, he uses intricate rhymes and melodies. In our passage today we will see a murderer presume on the grace of God to walk away from God and build his own domain. It’s surprising that the first city recorded in the Bible wasn't founded by a patriarch, a prophet, or even a man walking with God. It was founded by a man who murdered his little brother.
