Today we are looking at the scene of the first murder. In the previous passage, the seed of the serpent struck down the seed of the woman. And in the course of that trial we learn about sin, about guilt, about justice, about responsibility, and about the amazing mercy of God that extends common grace to the guilty. With all that in mind, let’s look at today’s passage. Let’s look at this passage carefully so we might see clearly what the Lord is teaching us about Himself, about the nature of sin, about the created order He established, and about the way of salvation that will one day be revealed in full. But the biblical worldview gives a resounding answer to Cain’s rhetorical question. God designed humanity to live in mutual obligation and love. Later we will see this fleshed out in the parable of the Good Samaritan and especially in the life and death of Jesus.
