Today we are looking at the last three verses of Genesis chapter 3. In the previous verses we saw the perfect world come completely unraveled. Adam and Eve listened to the serpent's lie, ate the fruit, and instantly felt the sting and shame of sin. We saw them try to hide, followed by the blame game when God found them, and finally, we saw the consequences of sin for everyone involved. At first glance their eviction seem harsh, but when we read these verses in light of the whole Bible, we see something more. He was graciously refusing to allow fallen man to lock himself into an eternal and unredeemable state of sin. The Triune God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) had planned man’s creation, and now the Triune God addresses man’s rebellion. There is a profound, tragic irony in this statement.
