In these verses the Spirit of God sets before us the creation of the woman, the first wedding, and God’s commentary that establishes the pattern for every marriage that has ever existed or ever will exist. This passage is not a precious moments story for children. It tells us why there are two sexes, why they fit together as they do, and why the union that God joins is permanent and fruitful. Our civilization is coming apart because we have attacked a central seam that God Himself stitched together in the garden. That seam is marriage between one man and one woman. The sexual revolution was not a small disagreement over personal preference. It was a full-scale assault on the created order. The world around us says that marriage is whatever two or more people agree to make it for a while.
