The basic structure of time and space was taking shape. Light had been called forth on day one; the rhythm of day and night established. But the world was still all sky and sea. No home for the creatures God intended to make, or for the man who would bear His image. Here God continues His work of forming, but He also begins the glorious work of filling. First the dry land, then the life that covers it. First the empty tomb, then the risen Lord who fills all things. When the New Testament calls Jesus a tekton , a carpenter, or more broadly a craftsman and builder who worked with wood and stone, it is no accident. The One who spoke day three into being later took up hammer and chisel in Nazareth. The first act of the third day is to bring forth a stable place for life to dwell.
