We live in an age that is simultaneously sex-saturated and profoundly embarrassed by sex. The world wants to drag sexuality out into the public square, strip it of all its covenantal glory, and parade it around like a cheap harlot. We live in an age that is simultaneously obsessed with and terrified by sex. The world has made it a cheap commodity, a recreational activity detached from covenant, and has consequently stripped it of all its glory. And the church, in a misguided reaction, has often treated it with a sterile embarrassment, as though it were a slightly dirty secret God reluctantly included in the instruction manual. Every story worth telling has an ending, and the ending tells you what the story was about all along. And the Song of Songs, this glorious, earthy, and profoundly spiritual love poem, is a miniature version of that same story.
