We live in an age that despises a list. We have been trained to skim, to scroll, to seek the sentimental highlight reel. The modern mind, and particularly the modern Christian mind, wants a faith of broad, abstract principles. We live in a world that is shot through with poison. From the moment the first serpent whispered his venomous lies in the Garden, mankind has been infected. The poison is sin, and its symptoms are everywhere: ingratitude, impatience, rebellion, and a profound loathing for the goodness of God. Every story has an end, which is really just the setup for the next story. A whole generation that came out of Egypt with cowardly unbelief in their hearts has fallen in the wilderness. Now, a new generation stands poised, looking across the Jordan River at the high walls of Jericho.
