We live in an age that treats truth like a vapor. It's an ethereal mist, a subjective feeling, a personal preference that you can shape into whatever animal you like. For the modern mind, truth is something you feel, not something you know. To do so would be to participate in his wicked works. This is a hard-edged command, a necessary form of spiritual quarantine. Truth must draw a hard line, and love is the reason why. But here, in his third letter, John shows us the dark twin of that same action. We have email, text messages, social media, video calls, and a thousand other ways to send words across the globe in an instant. And yet, for all our connectivity, we are profoundly disconnected. We have mistaken the transmission of information for the cultivation of fellowship.
