When we are sick, we go to a doctor. When our car breaks down, we go to a mechanic. When we are anxious, we go to a therapist. When we want to know the future of the economy, we consult an analyst. We live in an age that does not know what history is for. To the modern secularist, history is either a meaningless catalogue of events, a random series of power plays, or, more recently, a therapeutic tale to be manipulated for the sake of current political grievances. The book of 2 Kings ends in what appears to be unmitigated disaster. The final chapters are a grim catalog of sin, rebellion, judgment, and collapse. The people of God have been slaughtered or dragged off into a pagan land.
