We come now to the first letter of Paul to the Corinthians. And we must begin by understanding that this is not a letter to a stained glass museum. This is a letter to a hospital, and a rowdy one at that. We live in an age that is obsessed with rights. Our entire culture is a cacophony of shrill demands for this right and that right. People demand the right to be insulated from opinions they dislike, the right to redefine reality to suit their personal desires, and the right to be subsidized in their rebellion. We come now to the end of this long letter to the troubled, gifted, and carnal church at Corinth. Paul has waded through their factionalism, their sexual immorality, their lawsuits, their confusion about marriage, meat, spiritual gifts, and the resurrection.
