How Cross-References Work
Our cross-reference system goes beyond simple word matching. Each reference shows a percent match based on:
- Quotation (90-100% match): Direct quotes from one passage to another
- Citation (85-95% match): Explicit references to other passages
- Prophecy Fulfilled (80-95% match): Old Testament prophecies with NT fulfillment
- Typology (70-90% match): Types and shadows pointing to Christ
- Verbal Parallel (60-80% match): Similar wording and phrasing
- Allusion (50-70% match): Subtle references and echoes
- Doctrinal (40-70% match): Same theological teaching
- Narrative Parallel (40-60% match): Similar events or stories
Using Cross-References
- Long-press a verse number and select "Cross-References"
- Browse related verses sorted by percent match
- Filter by type using the filter buttons (Quotation, Prophecy, etc.)
- Adjust quality slider to show only high-match references
- Tap any reference to navigate there or view actions
Color Coding: References are color-coded by type and percent match. Gold = highest match, blue = moderate, gray = general connection.
Chart View: Visual Cross-Reference Explorer
Switch to Chart View using the chart icon in the cross-references header to see connections as a stunning radial visualization:
- Radial Bars: Each cross-reference appears as a colored bar radiating from the center verse. Longer bars = stronger connections.
- Heat-Map Colors: Bar colors range from warm red (highest match ~100%) through orange, yellow, green, to cool blue (lower match). Instantly see which references are most significant.
- Interactive Navigation: Click any bar to load cross-references for that verse, exploring chains of biblical connections.
- Breadcrumb Trail: As you navigate verse-to-verse, a breadcrumb trail at the top shows your exploration path. Click any point to jump back.
Chart Sort Modes
Use the sort buttons above the chart to organize cross-references:
- By Percent: Highest match percentage first (default). Best for finding the strongest connections.
- By Book: Groups references by biblical book, showing books with the most connections first. Great for seeing which books relate most to your verse.
- By Canon: Arranges references in biblical order (Genesis to Revelation). Perfect for understanding the progression of themes through Scripture.
Exploring Connection Chains
The Chart View turns cross-reference study into an exploration experience:
- Start with any verse's cross-references
- Click the Chart icon to switch to Chart View
- Click a bar to see that verse's cross-references
- Continue exploring connections through Scripture
- Use the breadcrumb trail to navigate back through your exploration
- Switch back to List View anytime to see details and verse text
Pro Tip: Use Chart View to discover unexpected connections. A verse about redemption might connect to Exodus, Isaiah, and Romans, revealing the unified theme across Scripture.
Timeline Features
- Chronological View: Events arranged by approximate date
- Multiple Tracks: Patriarchs, Kings, Prophets, NT events displayed in parallel
- Zoom Controls: Zoom in/out to see more or less detail

What is the Sidecar Bible?
The Sidecar Bible is a handy side Bible you can open at any time to read any Scripture passage without losing your place in the main Reader. Tap the "Sidecar Bible" tab at the top of the screen to open a separate Bible browser. You can also press Ctrl+2 (or Cmd+2 on Mac) to switch to the Sidecar tab quickly.
Why Use the Sidecar?
- Never Lose Your Place: Read any verse in the Sidecar while your main Reader stays right where you were

As professional recordings become available, they will automatically replace the robotic voices with natural, studio-quality audio.
Tip: TTS quality depends on your device's available voices. Desktop browsers (especially Chrome and Edge) often have higher-quality voice options than mobile browsers.
